OnePiece Episode 6

Image
I watched the 6th episode of one piece where Luffy and his crew are still in the town with Captain buggy. I greatly amidred Chouchou the dog for his courage and loyalty to his master. This was also reflected in Luffy, which showed Nami that he isn’t like other pirates who are cruel. Best of all, I was able to recognize a lot of Japanese that we learned in class like the vocab word じゅんび, which means preparation and the phrase form ために, which means in the purpose of, a few times. I’m really starting to like the show, so I am excited for the coming episodes both for the plot and for the Japanese I will be able recognize.

One piece episode 5

I watched the 5th episode of One Piece that followed Luffy and Zoro as they come upon Captain Buggy and Dami. Dami stole the map to the Grand Line from Captain Buggy, and her story line finally connected with that of Luffy’s. Originally Dami refused to join Luffy as a part of his crew, but when they’re all captured by Captain Buggy, she is forced to join forces with them or die. I liked getting to see more of Luffy and how his character is different from a prototypical pirate. I was also able to recognize some words from our recent Japanese chapter like じゅんび, which means preparation. A lot of this show is more casual, rather than formal, dialogue spoken in a quicker intonation, but I feel like slowly I am getting better at it.

One piece episode 4

This episode of One Piece explored the origins of Luffy’a hat. When Luffy was a kid, he met this Shanks, a pirate who inspired Luffy to become a pirate of his own. Shanks was Luffy’s hero in many ways because of his presence, skills, and confidence as a pirate. Shanks commanded the respect of his crew and was admired by all of the townspeople. When Luffy stood up for Shanks crew, Shanks felt indebted to Luffy by saving his life, but unfortunately losing his arm in the process. This created an unbreakable bond between Luffy and Shanks that is symbolized in the hat that Shanks gave to Luffy.

I RECOGNIZED SOME LYRICS

I was listening to my music on shuffle this morning in the library while studying, and a song from Totoro came on. I have listened to this soundtrack many times, but this time, I was able to identify some words that I have been studying no less than 30 minutes earlier. The line that I heard was, "森の中に...". I couldn't identify the rest of that line, but I was just surprised at the fact that I was able to recognize that they were talking about something within a forest.  In the past, I may have purposefully played my Japanese playlist and been able to recognize some words, but this required conscious effort to monitor for words that I knew. However, the Totoro song came on randomly, and I was able to identify the words without consciously trying to do so. For me, this was a moment of great joy because it was the first time that this subconscious recognition has happened: music is one of the hardest areas to pick up words because artists use slang and speak so quickly; thus,
